Lina
Wertmuller
|
Lina Wertmüller had a discipline problem as a child and was supposedly thrown out of fifteen Roman Catholic schools. In 1951, Wertmüller and some friends established a modernist theater company. Wertmüller later toured with a puppet company, doing bizarre adaptations of Kafka for childrens' shows. Wertmüller's career began when she landed the job of assistant director on Federico Fellini's 8 1/2. This experience paved the way for Wertmüller's own debut as a film director - The Lizards (1963). Many of Wertmuller's films deal with gender politics between the sexes. In 1976 Lina was the first female to ever be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for the film, Seven Beauties.. |
