Claude Cahun
Claude Cahun was a photographer and writer in the 1920-40's who played her own special part in the surrealist movement. Born in France, she moved to Jersey island with her step-sister who also had a male pseudonym for her art work. Cahun's real name is Lucy Schwob. When the Nazis invaded, her and her sister would slip notes to inspire mutiny and rebellion in the pockets of Nazi soldiers. They were eventually arrested and imprisoned until the Nazi's left. "My opinion about homosexuality and homosexuals is exactly the same as my opinion about heterosexualityy and heterosexuals. All depends on individuals and circumstances. I claim a general freedom of behaviour."" Claude Cahun, L'Amité, 1925
